15th Anniversary Edition Blood Splatter 2LP

This double LP is the 15th Anniversary Edition of DMX's second studio album, pressed on blood splatter vinyl and issued in 2013 by Def Jam and Ruff Ryders in the Respect The Classics reissue series. It carries the original 1998 catalog number, 314 538 640-1. The solicitation for this run noted that the album had been out of print on vinyl since 2003.

The hype sticker names the blood splatter treatment, and copies under this barcode have turned up in two forms: a blood splatter picture disc, and clear vinyl with red splatter. Discogs lists both with the same cover and sticker, so the look of the discs can differ from one copy to the next.

Sixteen tracks run across four sides. Production comes from Swizz Beatz, PK, Dame Grease and DJ Shok, with Dee and Waah executive producing for Ruff Ryders. Tony Dawsey mastered the album and Jonathan Mannion shot the photography. Jay-Z and The LOX appear on "Blackout," Mary J. Blige on "Coming From," and Drag-On on "No Love 4 Me." "It's All Good" samples Taana Gardner's "Heartbeat."

"Slippin'," the first single, samples Grover Washington Jr.'s "Moonstreams," carries backing vocals from Tamyra Gray and is certified Platinum by the RIAA. Its video, directed by Rubin Whitmore II, portrays DMX's youth.

The album first arrived on December 22, 1998, seven months after the debut It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. It entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 with more than 670,000 units shipped in its first week and held the top spot for three weeks, making DMX the second artist to debut two albums at No. 1 in a single calendar year. It went on to triple Platinum in the US.
