Indie Exclusive 150g Clear With Red, White & Blue Splatter Vinyl, 2LP Gatefold

This Indie Exclusive edition presses Live From Austin, TX onto two 150g discs of clear vinyl splattered with red, white and blue, inside a gatefold sleeve. New West Records presents it as the recording's first appearance on vinyl and says the audio was remastered specifically for this release. The program runs across three sides, and the fourth side is left blank. A 150g black edition came out on the same July 2026 street date.

The performance was taped on December 18, 1982, for the Austin City Limits television series. It is issued under exclusive license from KLRU-TV in Austin. New West first released it on CD and DVD in July 2006 as part of its Live From Austin, TX series. That series draws on the full concerts that were edited down into the half-hour broadcasts.

McClinton sings and plays harmonica in front of a band with a horn section. The set mixes R&B and blues standards with songs from his own records: Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman's "Mess of Blues," Jesse Stone's "Lipstick, Powder and Paint," Jessie Mae Robinson's "Sneakin' Around" and Otis Redding's "I've Got Dreams to Remember." Side C opens with "Givin' It Up for Your Love," which McClinton wrote. It was the hit from his 1980 album The Jealous Kind, reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, and it remains his only Top 40 pop single.

McClinton was born in Lubbock and moved to Fort Worth at eleven. There he played in a bar band that backed Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins and Jimmy Reed. He played the harmonica on Bruce Channel's 1962 chart hit "Hey! Baby," and he has since won four Grammy Awards, the most recent in 2020 for Best Traditional Blues Album with Tall, Dark, & Handsome.
