180 Gram Black Vinyl 2LP, 45 RPM, Gatefold

This is the standard black vinyl edition of Splat!: two 180-gram LPs in a gatefold jacket made from inside-out cardboard, finished with embossing, spot varnish and sand varnish. Copies from the first pressing include a 12-page, LP-sized booklet of lyrics. The records are cut to play at 45 RPM, and the thirteen songs fill four sides, three or four to a side.

Deep Purple released the album on July 3, 2026, their second with guitarist Simon McBride after =1 in 2024. In the liner notes Ian Gillan describes its subject as the end of humanity, "not in any crude apocalyptic sense but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence." Bob Ezrin produced again but takes no songwriting credit, which makes this the first Deep Purple album since Rapture of the Deep in 2005 written by the band alone.

Gillan has said the new songs are "compatible with 'Highway Star', 'Smoke on the Water', 'Lazy'" in "the dynamics, the balance, and the fun of the music we made from '69 to '73." Keith Urban plays guitar on "Diablo."

"Guilt Trippin'," the third single and the official video above, imagines God and Charles Darwin talking over the fate of the world and which of them carries more of the blame. "Arrogant Boy" and "Diablo" were released ahead of it in May and June. In Germany the album reached No. 3 and topped the rock and metal chart.
