Real Gone Music remastered The Ultra-Violence for this reissue and pressed it on Smoking Crater colored vinyl, a single LP with an insert carrying the lyrics and a band photo. The catalog number is RGM-2133, and the disc labels carry the original Restless logo beside Real Gone's.
Death Angel recorded their debut over three days, June 15 to 17, 1986, at Banquet Sound Studios in Santa Rosa, California, and Restless/Enigma released it on April 23, 1987. Every member was under 20, and drummer Andy Galeon was 14. Metallica's Kirk Hammett had produced the band's Kill as One demo, and that tape, along with shows in Los Angeles and New York, led to the Enigma deal.
Mark Osegueda sang, Rob Cavestany played lead guitar and Gus Pepa rhythm, with Dennis Pepa on bass and Galeon on drums; the band produced it with Davy Vain. The title song, a 10:32 instrumental, opens side two. Martin Popoff's 2010 book The Top 500 Heavy Metal Albums of All Time lists it at No. 370. The video above is "Voracious Souls," the third song on side one.
