Single CD, 2023 AOI & Chrysalis Reissue

This compact disc is the 2023 edition of Stakes Is High, issued by AOI Records, De La Soul's own label, under exclusive license to Chrysalis Records with catalog number RMM-054-2. It was released for the US and Canadian market, and the disc was glass mastered and pressed by Vantiva in Guadalajara, Mexico. The program runs to eighteen tracks: it follows the album's streaming sequence, which divides "The Bizness" into two tracks, "The Bizness" and "Yunonstop." The disc face carries the AOI and Chrysalis marks and a 2023 A.O.I., LLC copyright line.

The edition exists because of a change in ownership. Reservoir Media bought Tommy Boy, the group's original label, in 2021, and its Chrysalis imprint then worked with the trio and AOI to bring their first six albums to streaming services on March 3, 2023. Vinyl, CD and cassette editions of each album followed, and this disc arrived in June 2023.

Tommy Boy released the album on July 2, 1996. It reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200, and Robert Christgau's Village Voice review opened by saying the group emerged "from the ether like the long-lost friends they are." The title track, produced by Jay Dee, who later recorded as J Dilla, was the lead single on June 17, 1996, built on samples of James Brown's "Mind Power" and Ahmad Jamal's "Swahililand," with "The Bizness" on the B-side. Its video features cameos from A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Common and MCA of the Beastie Boys. In 2023, Billboard placed the song sixth and Stereogum second on their lists of the ten greatest De La Soul songs. "Itzsoweezee (HOT)" and "4 More" followed as singles.

• Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the error was ours

• Refund timing may vary depending on your payment provider

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.
