This is the limited black and white splatter pressing of Pre-Historic Metal, a single LP with four songs on each side. Peaceville Records released the album on May 8, 2026, forty years after Fenriz and Nocturno Culto first formed the band under the name Black Death.
The record was made at Chaka Khan Studios in Oslo, with production by Ole Øvstedal, Silje Høgevold and Mads Luis. Mastering was split between Jack Control at Enormous Door and Maor Appelbaum Mastering. Fenriz has said the pair "collaborated in the studio more than ever" and chose to "tighten the tourniquet and do 8 effective songs brimming with riffs." The label places the songs across thrash, black, heavy and doom metal, written with a nod to how the band worked in the late 1980s.
It follows It Beckons Us All from 2024 and came soon after The Fist In The Face Of God, a box set gathering the band's early black metal years. On the title, Fenriz kept it short: "Prehistoric is a loose term. I just figure it's our VIBE, our take on things." The lyric video above is for "They Found One Of My Graves," which opens side A.
