Batwing Vinyl LP & Graphic Novel Box Set

Mondo's box set pairs Danny Elfman's score for Tim Burton's 1989 Batman with DC's Batman '89, the hardcover graphic novel in which screenwriter Sam Hamm continues the story with artist Joe Quinones and colorist Leonardo Ito. Record and book share a clamshell box with new artwork by Quinones and Paolo Rivera. The set debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 on an exclusive Batstripe pressing; this is the wider-release variant Mondo issued after it.

The record is a single 140-gram LP on what Mondo calls Batwing vinyl: purple and white quadrants with a green splatter running through them. Distributor listings name the same disc Butterfly Effect vinyl. It was mastered by James Plotkin and sits in a gatefold jacket with a black die-cut anti-static inner sleeve, and an obi strip wraps the box. Tracks are numbered 1 through 19 straight across both sides, on the jacket and on the labels alike.

Shirley Walker conducted the score, and John Takis wrote the liner notes. The program follows the 19-track score album Warner Bros. issued in 1989, produced by Elfman and Steve Bartek. Its opening cue, "The Batman Theme," went on to serve as the basis for the theme music of Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.
