Black Vinyl Reissue

17 North Parade, the vintage imprint VP Records uses for its reggae catalogue, returns Culture's debut to a single black LP in the original Joe Gibbs jacket — yellow field, two embossed sevens down the left edge, the three singers photographed in silhouette above the sea, and the line "Another Joe Gibbs Production" under the globe logo. Ten songs, five to a side.

Culture cut the album in 1976 at Joe Gibbs Recording Studio in Kingston. Gibbs and Errol Thompson produced it, working as they usually did under the name the Mighty Two, and it came out in 1977 on Gibbs' own label. VP lists Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare and the saxophonist Tommy McCook among the players.

The title points at 7 July 1977. The album's liner notes describe Joseph Hill having a vision on a bus of 1977 as a year of judgment, and then the day itself: "a hush descended on Kingston; many people did not go outdoors, shops closed, an air of foreboding and expectation filled the city."

The record has been reissued many times since. Shanachie released a US edition in 1988 with new cover art and the running order rearranged, the last five songs moved to the front. A fortieth-anniversary edition followed in 2017 with a second disc of remixes and dub versions and sleeve notes by Don Letts. In 2025 Mojo placed it sixteenth in a list of the fifty best reggae albums.

While most deliveries arrive within the quoted window, occasional delays may occur due to weather, carrier volume, or other factors outside our control.

Shipping Rates

Shipping costs are calculated and displayed at checkout based on destination, package weight, and selected delivery speed.

• Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the error was ours

• Refund timing may vary depending on your payment provider

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.
