CD in Gatefold Digisleeve

This is Epitaph's US compact disc of Hum of Hurt, catalog number 88156-2: a single disc carrying all ten tracks across a running time of 33:34, packaged in a gatefold digisleeve with a card inner sleeve and a fold-out lyric sheet. The CD reached stores on the album's June 5, 2026 street date; the vinyl editions, issued through Deathwish, followed on July 17.

Hum of Hurt is the twelfth studio album by Converge, the Salem, Massachusetts band Jacob Bannon and Kurt Ballou formed in 1990, and their second full-length of 2026, arriving four months after Love Is Not Enough. The two records came out of one writing period. Bannon has said the band ended up with a wealth of material and realized it had made two separate albums; Ballou has said he preferred two shorter records to a single double album. Converge surprise-released the title track as the lead single on April 1, announcing the album the same day, and followed it with "Doom in Bloom" on May 5.

Ballou recorded and mixed the album at God City in Salem, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks, and Alan Douches mastered it. Production is credited to the whole band, with Nate Newton on bass and Ben Koller on drums alongside Bannon and Ballou. The title borrows the Hum, a reported real-world phenomenon, which Bannon reimagines as the pain of the world adding up to a signal audible across the universe.

The artwork is a collaboration between Bannon and the UK artist Thomas Hooper. Bannon spent months on a mixed-media piece for the interior, whose figures stand for the five elements of Pancha Bhuta: earth, water, fire, air and aether. Pitchfork rated the album 7.6 out of 10, and Kerrang! gave it four out of five.
