Indie Exclusive Unholy Chasm Vinyl 2LP

This is Futurismo's 2026 remastered deluxe edition of Only Theatre Of Pain, pressed for independent record stores on two LPs in a color the label calls "Unholy Chasm." The label describes it as a repressing of the deluxe 2LP set in a new color. Alongside the original album, Futurismo adds a second disc of early demos and rare material. The package is a gloss-laminated sleeve printed with metallic ink, with printed inner sleeves, a large fold-out poster, redux artwork built around Edward Colver's photography, and liner notes by Lisa Fancher of Frontier Records.

Only Theatre Of Pain was Christian Death's debut album, released by Frontier on March 24, 1982. The band produced it with Thom Wilson, and Futurismo's notes say it was recorded in a matter of days. The lineup was Rozz Williams on vocals, Rikk Agnew of the Adolescents on guitar, James McGearty on bass and George Belanger on drums. Williams, still in his teens at the time, also drew the sleeve illustrations and devised the cover concept.

The original LP ran ten tracks across two sides. This edition follows them with the six bonus tracks first added to the 1993 CD reissue, among them "Deathwish," "Dogs" and "Desperate Hell," then the 1982 demos of "Sleepwalk" and "Invocation" and alternate versions of "Cavity - First Communion" and "Lord's Prayer."

Mick Mercer, reviewing it for Melody Maker in 1983, called it the "gothic album to out-gothic all others." Writing in The A.V. Club in 2013, Jason Heller called it "a depraved masterpiece." In a retrospective review for Record Collector, Freek Kinkelaar wrote that the album's influence "should not be underestimated."
