Rhino High Fidelity 180-Gram Black Vinyl, Numbered Edition of 5,000

This is the Rhino High Fidelity edition of 3614 Jackson Highway, the album Cher made for Atco in 1969. Kevin Gray cut it at Cohearent Audio from the original analog master tapes, and Optimal Media in Germany pressed it on 180-gram black vinyl. The run is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. Rhino introduced it through Rhino.com in May 2026, in the same Rhino High Fidelity installment as Dusty Springfield's Dusty in Memphis and Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark.

The heavyweight gatefold jacket is a glossy tip-on with a silver foil finish beneath Cher's name. It comes with an obi strip and an exclusive 4-panel insert of new liner notes by Rob Bowman, and the obi and front cover both carry the catalog number RHF1 298. The LP keeps the original eleven-song running order. The previously unreleased recordings Rhino added as bonus tracks to its limited 2001 edition do not appear here.

Atco first issued the album on June 20, 1969. Its title is the street address of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, where Cher recorded with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section: Jimmy Johnson, Barry Beckett, David Hood and Roger Hawkins, with Eddie Hinton on lead guitar. Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin produced it. The cover photograph shows Cher with the players, the producers and Sonny Bono. It remains her only solo studio album for Atco.

Most of the songs are covers. Three come from Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline, and the rest include material by Stephen Stills, Otis Redding and Dr. John. "I Walk On Guilded Splinters" was released as a single in June 1969. "For What It's Worth" followed and reached No. 125 on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart. The album peaked at No. 160 on the Billboard 200 even though the trade reviews were warm; Billboard called it "an impressive collection." Mark Deming later wrote for AllMusic that it was "arguably the finest album of her career."
