180g Black Vinyl LP with Paper-Wrapped Jacket

This is Craft Recordings' black-vinyl reissue of Cheo Feliciano's 1971 solo debut, pressed on 180-gram vinyl. The remaster is all-analog: Clint Holley and Dave Polster of Well Made Music cut the AAA lacquers directly from the original master tapes. The disc carries the Vaya Records label design and catalog number CR01008, with the jacket reproducing the original Vaya artwork, which Izzy Sanabria designed.

Cheo first came out in 1971 on Vaya Records, a Fania imprint. It was Feliciano's first solo recording, made after ten years as vocalist with the Joe Cuba Sextet and two with Eddie Palmieri's orchestra. Composer Tite Curet Alonso co-produced the album with Jerry Masucci and wrote most of its songs, while Feliciano wrote "Pienso en ti" himself. Wikipedia reports that the album broke sales records in the Latin music market, and Fania's own notes say "Anacaona" made the top of radio playlists in both New York and Puerto Rico.

Bobby Valentin and Nick Jimenez wrote the arrangements, and Johnny Pacheco was recording director and also played conga. Larry Harlow is on piano, Valentin on bass, Louie Ramirez on vibes, Orestes Vilato on timbales, Johnny Rodriguez on bongos, Vinnie Bell on electric guitar and Charlie Rodriguez on tres. Ismael Quintana, Justo Betancourt, Santos Colon and Pacheco sing the chorus.
