Rhino Reserve 180-Gram Vinyl LP

This is the Rhino Reserve edition of Express Yourself, one of five Rhino Reserve titles issued in June 2026 for Black Music Month. The lacquers were cut from the analog master by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab, and the record is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing in Oxnard, California. It ships in a single-pocket jacket printed direct to board, with the disc in a Fidelity Record Pressing inner sleeve and no insert.

The running order is the album's first 1970 configuration. Express Yourself went out in two versions that year: the original opened with "Road Without An End" and included "Tell Me What You Want Me To Do," while a revised issue swapped that song for "Love Land," edited "High As Apple Pie - Slice I" and lengthened "Slice II" to roughly 18 minutes. Vinyl Cut's review of this pressing reports that it restores the original sequence while keeping Slice I unedited and Slice II complete, a combination previously found only on a 2007 expanded CD. With the full Slice II aboard, side two runs past 27 minutes.

The album was the fourth of the band's five records for Warner Bros. and the first to carry Charles Wright's name out front. Its title song became the group's signature, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B chart, and earned a 1971 Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. N.W.A built their own 1989 "Express Yourself" on it. The back cover credits Melvin Dunlap on bass and James Gadson on drums.
