Rhino Reserve 180g Black Vinyl, Cut From Analog Tape

This is the Rhino Reserve edition of Buddy Guy & Junior Wells Play The Blues, catalog number RES1 364. Its lacquers were cut from the original analog master by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab, and the record was pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing in California. The jacket keeps the original front-cover design, with the stereo block beside the Atco logo now reading RES1 364, and a red Rhino Reserve sticker marks this title as cut from analog tape.

Rhino Reserve is Rhino's premium audiophile vinyl line. This title arrived in Rhino's Rocktober 2026 program, a run of 54 limited-edition vinyl releases for independent record stores, as one of a group of Rhino Reserve 180-gram single-LP editions.

The album dates to 1972. Rhino's own sticker notes that Eric Clapton coproduced it, and that it carries guest appearances from The J. Geils Band, Clapton and other members of Derek and the Dominos, and Dr. John. Its opening track, "A Man of Many Words," was issued as a 1972 single backed with "Honey Dripper." The partnership behind it was already long-standing: Guy had played guitar on Wells's 1965 Delmark album Hoodoo Man Blues, and in the 1970s the two worked with the Rolling Stones on several occasions.
