180 Gram Black Vinyl

This LP is BMG's vinyl reissue of Balls To Picasso, first issued on October 27, 2017, when all six of Bruce Dickinson's solo albums from 1990 to 2005 returned to vinyl. The reissues were cut from the original masters and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. This edition is a single LP in a gatefold sleeve with a printed inner sleeve, catalog number BMGCAT108LP.

Balls To Picasso was first released in June 1994, on EMI in Europe and Mercury in the US. It was Dickinson's second solo album and his first after leaving Iron Maiden in 1993, and his first made with guitarist Roy Z. Roy Z's band Tribe of Gypsies backs him: Roy Z on guitars, Eddie Casillas on bass, David Ingraham on drums and Doug Van Booven on percussion, with Dickie Fliszar drumming on "Tears of the Dragon" and Richard Baker on keyboards.

Shay Baby produced the album, recorded at Metropolis Studios in Chiswick, London, with further sessions at Townhouse 3 and Westside Studios in London, Silver Cloud in Los Angeles, and Granny's in Reno, Nevada, where "Shoot All the Clowns" was recorded. Its working title was Laughing in the Hiding Bush, after a song dedicated to Dickinson's son Austin. Storm Thorgerson was commissioned for the cover, but his design proved unaffordable and later became the cover of Anthrax's Stomp 442.

"Tears of the Dragon" was released as a single on May 16, 1994, and "Shoot All the Clowns" followed on September 26. The album reached No. 21 in the UK, No. 6 in Finland, No. 8 in Sweden and No. 185 on the US Billboard 200.
