Retail Exclusive Opaque White Vinyl LP

This is the retail-exclusive edition of Returning To Myself: a single LP pressed on opaque white vinyl and marked by a round front-cover sticker that reads "Retail Exclusive" over "Opaque White Vinyl." The jacket keeps the standard black-and-white Collier Schorr portrait. The ten songs are split five to a side, with Side A closing on "Anniversary" and Side B opening on "Church & State." On copies documented on Discogs, this edition's own barcode is a sticker placed over the generic barcode on the back cover. The label credit reads Brandi Carlile Band, LLC under exclusive license to Interscope Records and Lost Highway.

Returning To Myself is Carlile's eighth studio album and her first solo record since In These Silent Days (2021). Before it came a stretch of writing with Elton John that produced the 2025 duets album Who Believes in Angels? She produced the new songs with Andrew Watt, Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon between 2024 and 2025. Sessions ran at Long Pond in the Hudson Valley and Henson in Los Angeles, among other rooms, and Emmylou Harris's Wrecking Ball (1995) was named as an inspiration. The title track came out as the lead single on September 3, 2025, alongside a video directed by Floria Sigismondi.

Her longtime bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroth play on the record, with Josh Klinghoffer, Chad Smith, Matt Chamberlain, Rob Moose, Blake Mills and Mark Isham. Elton John plays Rhodes piano on "You Without Me," which he co-wrote with Carlile, Watt and Bernie Taupin. "Church & State" was written on the night of the 2024 US presidential election and quotes Thomas Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists. Serban Ghenea mixed the album. Pete Lyman mastered nine of the ten tracks, and Matt Colton mastered "You Without Me."

The album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 with 35,000 album-equivalent units, Carlile's fifth top-ten album. It reached No. 1 on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts, and No. 2 on the UK Americana Albums chart. Metacritic gives it an aggregate score of 82 out of 100.
