Indie Exclusive Mixed Variable Marble Vinyl 2LP

This is Ninja Tune's 2026 repress of Black Sands on two LPs of eco-mix vinyl, carried by independent record stores in the US as an indie exclusive and issued in the UK as the World Environment Day Edition. A "No Music On A Dead Planet" sticker on the front of the sleeve marks the discs as 100% reclaimed vinyl.

In the label's notes, Ninja Tune head of production Sean Preston explains that eco-mix is made from surplus PVC left over from the label's own pressings, mixed and melted down together. The marbling falls differently on every copy, which is why the color is sold as variable rather than as one fixed pattern. The same notes state that the plants Ninja Tune presses with belong to the Music Climate Pact and the Vinyl Alliance Sustainable Supplier Programme.

Black Sands is Simon Green's fourth studio album as Bonobo, first released on Ninja Tune on 29 March 2010, and the label's copy for this repress calls it his breakthrough record. Green wrote every track and plays much of what is heard himself, from piano, upright bass and classical guitar to harp, harmonium, mandolin, xylophone and a music box. Andreya Triana sings on "Eyesdown," "The Keeper" and "Stay the Same," Mike Simmonds plays the violin parts, and a small horn and woodwind section includes Mike Lesirge, Alan Hardiman and Ryan Jacob.

The cover photograph was taken at Derwentwater in northern England, with the tower at Castlerigg standing in the background. The BPI certified the album silver for 60,000 units in the UK by November 2016. "All In Forms" was used in the 2012 film House at the End of the Street, "Kong" in the second season of House of Cards, and "Kiara" in the video game Sleeping Dogs. In Bonobo's catalog it follows Days to Come (2006) and precedes The North Borders (2013).
