Deluxe Edition Transparent Red 2LP with Hexagon Flexi Disc

This is the limited deluxe edition of Inferno: two transparent red LPs in a triple gatefold outer sleeve with printed inner sleeves and a 16-page 12-inch booklet. Tucked inside the booklet is a hexagon-shaped 8-inch flexi disc that plays at 45 RPM. It carries "Vol.4 - P. Primers - 177 Giraud's Mirror", a bonus piece that sits outside the album's eighteen-track running order and is absent from the hype sticker. Warp had the deluxe edition pressed in both North America and Europe.

Inferno is the fifth studio album by Boards of Canada, the Scottish duo of Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin, and their first since Tomorrow's Harvest in 2013. It was recorded at their Hexagon Sun studio in the Pentland Hills and mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios in London. The physical release credits all writing to Sandison, and the booklet artwork is credited to the duo. Guitars, live drums and synths share the record with sampled speech, including the voice of scholar Seyyed Hossein Nasr on "Prophecy At 1420 MHz", a conversation from the 1971 documentary The Jesus Trip on "Father And Son", and a recorded human heartbeat beneath the closing "I Saw Through Platonia".

Robert Beatty directed the video for the opening pair, "Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz", and "The Word Becomes Flesh" runs over the end credits of the A24 film Backrooms. Metacritic gives the album a weighted score of 85 from 21 critics, which it classes as universal acclaim, and it reached the top ten of several national charts.
