Deluxe Edition 140g Black Vinyl 2LP With Bonus Tracks

BMG's 2025 deluxe edition puts Black Sabbath's 1970 debut on two 140g black LPs under catalog number 964186921. Record one carries the original seven-track album in its 2009 remaster. Record two adds nine bonus recordings: "Wicked World," then studio outtakes, alternative mixes and instrumental takes of songs from the album.

The records come in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves. A purple sticker on the front names Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward and calls the set a 2-LP deluxe edition with "Wicked World" plus rare outtakes and instrumentals. The record one center label reads "Record One: Original Album" and credits production to Rodger Bain for Tony Hall Enterprises. The labels and gatefold back carry a 2009 Sanctuary Records Group copyright, and the discs were manufactured in Germany.

"Wicked World" first appeared as the B-side of the "Evil Woman" single, and the two songs were cut at Trident Studios on 10 November 1969. The rest of the album was recorded in one 12-hour session at Regent Sounds on London's Denmark Street a week later. Side four includes an alternate "Evil Woman" with horns and flute and a "Behind the Wall of Sleep" with a dry vocal.

Vertigo released the album in the UK on 13 February 1970, and Warner Bros. issued it in the US that June. It reached No. 8 in the UK and No. 23 on the Billboard 200. The cover photograph was taken by Keith McMillan at Mapledurham Watermill. In 2023 Rolling Stone placed the title track first on its list of the 100 greatest heavy metal songs.
