Black Vinyl LP

This is the standard black-vinyl edition of Double Infinity, catalog number 4AD0850LP: a single LP carrying the album's nine tracks, five on side A and four on side B, with green center labels. It comes in a standard single sleeve with a printed inner sleeve holding band photographs, credits and lyrics. Matt Colton mastered the record at Metropolis Studios in London, and the side A runout carries the inscription "MATT @ METROPOLIS". 4AD issued the album alongside colored-vinyl editions, a CD and a cassette.

Double Infinity is Big Thief's sixth studio album, released by 4AD on September 5, 2025, and the first the band made as a trio after founding bassist Max Oleartchik left in 2024. Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek and James Krivchenia spent three weeks at the Power Station in New York City with longtime collaborator Dom Monks, who produced, engineered and mixed it. 4AD's notes say it was tracked live with minimal overdubs, the band playing nine-hour days with a circle of guests: Laraaji on zither and tablet, Mikey Buishas on piano and tape loops, Joshua Crumbly on bass, and Alena Spanger, Hannah Cohen and June McDoom on vocals. Further recording followed in Brooklyn, Taos and Topanga, where the album was mixed at Fivestar Studios.

Los Angeles, Grandmother, Happy With You and How Could I Have Known are credited to all three members, a first for a Big Thief album. Meek has traced the title to a recurring "two eights" motif that also gave the band's studio its name. The singles were Incomprehensible in June 2025, All Night All Day in July, and Los Angeles with Grandmother in August. The cover photograph is by Bobby Doherty.

The album reached No. 21 on the UK Albums Chart, No. 5 in Scotland, No. 1 on the UK Americana Albums chart and No. 121 on the Billboard 200. It holds a Metacritic score of 84 from 22 reviews, and Mojo placed it fourth on its list of the best albums of 2025.
