Turquoise Transparent 12-inch Vinyl, Record Store Day Drops 2020
Cherry Red reissued Summer Into Winter on August 29, 2020, the first of that year's Record Store Day Drops dates, ending more than thirty years in which the EP had been out of print on vinyl. This edition was limited to 750 copies on turquoise transparent vinyl, cut at 45 RPM. It was remastered at Abbey Road Studios, where Miles Showell cut the lacquers, and the jacket is printed on reverse board with the original 1982 artwork.
Summer Into Winter was Ben Watt's second release for Cherry Red, after his debut single "Cant," and first appeared in March 1982. He wrote the five songs between August and December 1981 and recorded them that December, with Robert Wyatt, formerly the drummer of Soft Machine, contributing piano and vocals.
His debut album, North Marine Drive, followed in 1983 and reached number one on the UK Indie Chart; he then set his solo work aside to form Everything but the Girl with Tracey Thorn. Later CD editions of North Marine Drive added these five songs as bonus tracks. The reissue carries Watt's full endorsement and arrived months after his album Storm Damage, released that January.
