Black Vinyl 180 Gram LP With Insert

Music On Vinyl presses Different Light on a single 180-gram black LP, packaged in a slip sleeve with an insert. The black edition follows the label's 2022 issue of the album, a limited run of 4,000 individually numbered copies on pink and purple marbled vinyl. Music On Vinyl made this pressing for the European market, and its own store sells it to European customers only for rights reasons, so it reaches the US as an import.

Different Light was the Bangles' second studio album, released by Columbia in January 1986. The band recorded it in the summer of 1985 at Sunset Sound Factory and Sunset Sound in Hollywood with producer David Kahne, and its Top 40 sound moved away from the 1960s-style rock and roll of their earlier records. It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and remains the band's most successful album; Music On Vinyl notes multi-platinum certifications in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Three of the five singles were written outside the band. Prince wrote "Manic Monday" under the pseudonym "Christopher," and it reached number two in both the US and the UK. "If She Knew What She Wants" was first recorded by Jules Shear, and the Bangles rewrote its first-person lyric in the third person. Liam Sternberg's "Walk Like an Egyptian" gave the group its first US number one, "Walking Down Your Street" reached number 11 in the US, and "Following" was issued as a single in the UK only. It is also the first Bangles album on which bassist Michael Steele sings lead on some tracks.

The lineup is Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson, Michael Steele and Debbi Peterson, with Mitchell Froom on keyboards and Tchad Blake among the engineers.
