Rhino High Fidelity 50th Anniversary Pressing, 180-Gram Vinyl, Numbered to 5,000

This is Rhino High Fidelity catalog number RHF1 8410: a 50th anniversary reissue of Bad Company's 1974 debut, limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. Kevin Gray cut the lacquers at Cohearent Audio from the original stereo master tapes, keeping the chain all-analog, and the 180-gram LP was pressed at Optimal Media in Germany. The band's own announcement listed it as sold exclusively through Rhino.com.

The record comes in a heavyweight, glossy gatefold jacket with a "tip-on" finish and an obi strip that lists the pressing details, catalog number and barcode. The copy number is printed in gold on the back cover against "/5000". Inside is an insert with commentary from recording engineer Ron Nevison and singer Paul Rodgers, written for this edition.

The back cover reproduces the original session credits. The album was recorded at Headley Grange, Hampshire, in November 1973 using Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio, with Nevison engineering and Ron Fawcus as tape operator. It was mixed at Olympic Studios in London and at The Temple in Goring, and the band produced it themselves. Mel Collins plays saxophone, and Sue and Sunny sing backing vocals on "Don't Let Me Down."

Rhino started the High Fidelity series in 2023 with The Cars' debut and John Coltrane's Coltrane's Sound, putting out two titles a quarter. This one was issued alongside Yes' Relayer, another album from 1974.

Bad Company brought together Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke from Free, Mick Ralphs from Mott the Hoople and Boz Burrell from King Crimson. Their debut reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in the issue dated September 28, 1974. The lead single, Ralphs' "Can't Get Enough," the video above, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
