Standard Edition CD

This is the standard US compact disc of petal, Ariana Grande's eighth studio album: a single disc holding all twelve tracks, about 36 minutes of music, in a jewel case with a clear tray and a 16-page booklet of lyrics, photos and credits. It carries the album's main cover, a black-and-white close-up of Grande photographed by Katia Temkin, rather than the alternate art used on the retailer-exclusive CD editions. The release is marked Parental Advisory for explicit lyrics.

Republic Records issued petal on July 31, 2026, together with Grande's own imprint, Babydoll Music. Grande wrote and executive-produced the record with Ilya Salmanzadeh, her co-producer on Eternal Sunshine, and Max Martin added production to three tracks. Sessions ran from January to April 2026 at Jungle City in New York, Godzilya in Los Angeles, and MXM in Los Angeles and Stockholm.

Grande has said much of the material came from "an unfiltered rage," and that this time she resisted softening her lyrics through rewrites. The title comes from the image of a petal in the pavement, which she described as something full of life growing through the cracks of something cold and hard. The pop and R&B arrangements lean on synthesizers and drum machines, extending the electronic sound of her three previous studio albums.

The lead single, "hate that i made you love me," reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, and the title track followed as the second single on release day. The album topped the charts in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and fifteen other countries.
