Indie Exclusive Chick Yellow Vinyl

This limited indie-exclusive edition of Half-Told Tales, the ninth studio album from Arab Strap, is pressed on chick yellow vinyl across two LPs and housed in a gatefold sleeve. It was released by Rock Action Records, the label run by Mogwai.

Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton formed Arab Strap in Falkirk, Scotland, in 1995. The duo split in 2006 and reformed in 2016, returning with As Days Get Dark on Rock Action in 2021. Half-Told Tales arrived almost three decades after the band's first single, "The First Big Weekend." In the band's own words: "We're thirty years old this year. So we decided to celebrate by making new music."

Paul Savage, whose credits include Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian and Franz Ferdinand, recorded and mixed the album at Chem19. Sam John mastered it at Precise Mastering. Rock Action's notes describe a record that runs from disco to metal via post-rock and spoken word, with flourishes that reach from folk to electronica. Moffat calls the single "You You You" "a sort of disco-metal incantation," and Middleton puts the partnership plainly: "The excitement comes because me and Aidan like and hate different things."
