This is the US compact disc of Be He Me, the debut full-length by Annuals, issued by Ace Fu Records on October 17, 2006 under catalog number ACE 045. The disc carries twelve tracks over 49 minutes, every song written by Adam Baker.
Annuals came out of Raleigh, North Carolina, as a collective built around Baker. Before this album they released EPs and split singles on Terpsikhore Records, a label Baker ran with guitarist Kenny Florence. Ace Fu's own notes list a lineup of Baker, Florence, bassist Mike Robinson, Zack Oden, Anna Spence and Nick Radford, with members often trading instruments on stage and in the studio.
The album's credits place the recording at Terpsikhore Studios in Raleigh, Smith Street Studios in Brooklyn and The Magic Shop in Manhattan, with mixing at Sonora Recorders and Hot Pie in Los Angeles. Spin's review heard strings, classical piano, stomp-rock riffs and space noises layered together. Pitchfork rated it 7.8 out of 10, NME gave it 8 out of 10 and Stylus a B+. "Brother" placed at No. 25 on Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape, and "Fair" was used in an episode of Veronica Mars in January 2007. Virgin issued the album in the UK the following year.
