Standard Black Vinyl LP With Digital Download Card

This is the vinyl edition of Something To Ruin, the third album by the Portland, Oregon band Ages and Ages, issued by Partisan Records in the US on August 19, 2016 under catalog number PTKF2136-1. It is a single black LP with eleven tracks, five on side A and six on side B, packed with an inner sleeve and a card for the digital download. Partisan offered the album in two physical formats, CD and this standard black LP.

The band recorded it at Ice Cream Party, the studio of Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock, working in a warehouse space there; Brock plays guitar on "So Hazy." The record leans further into electronic and synthetic sounds than the two albums before it, Alright You Restless (2011) and Divisionary (2014).

Singer Tim Perry and bassist Rob Oberdorfer wrote with a trip through Central America in mind, where they visited ancient ruins overtaken by forest, and they set that image against the rapid redevelopment of their own city. Partisan's notes describe an album about the debris of collective failure that asks whether letting go and starting over might be the better course. The opening track, "They Want More," was the lead single, and its video follows a slowly melting ice cream cone.

Ages and Ages formed in Portland in 2009, were named the city's best new band by Willamette Week in 2011, and signed with Partisan that same year.
