This is the RSD Essentials edition of Decemberunderground, number 098 in the program, pressed as a single standard-weight LP on transparent smoke vinyl. It was issued for the album's 20th anniversary and brings the record back to vinyl for the first time since 2006. The gatefold jacket reproduces the original LP, and a 12 x 12 insert carries the song lyrics alongside portraits of the four band members.
Decemberunderground is AFI's seventh studio album, first released by Interscope Records on June 6, 2006. Jerry Finn produced the sessions at Conway Recording and Sage & Sound Recording in Los Angeles, with Joe McGrath handling recording, and Finn mixed the album with Chris Lord-Alge at Conway. Ronan Harris of VNV Nation added programming and keyboards. The band wrote more than 120 songs for the record, and most of them were never finished or released. Davey Havok has described the title as "a time and a place."
The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Three singles came from it: "Miss Murder" first, then "Love Like Winter" and "The Missing Frame." The "Miss Murder" video won Best Rock Video at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.
