Blue & White Swirl 180g 45 RPM 2LP

This edition of Origins, Vol. 2 is spread across two 180-gram LPs cut at 45 RPM, with the twelve tracks running three to a side over four sides. The MNRK Heavy label store sells it as blue and white "color in color" vinyl, and BrooklynVegan's listing describes the discs as opaque white set inside translucent cobalt blue. The label notes that each record is pressed individually, so the swirl differs from copy to copy. Elusive Disc lists a gatefold jacket and US manufacture, BrooklynVegan lists a download card in the package, and the spine and disc labels carry catalog number EOM-LP-46292.

The album is Frehley's seventh studio record, issued by eOne on September 18, 2020, and the sequel to his 2016 covers set Origins Vol. 1. It gathers eleven songs that, in eOne's words, inspired and helped shape him, then closes on a bonus-track remake of the Kiss song "She." Frehley produced it, with Alex Salzman as co-producer. The tracklist below names the original artist of each song.

Two guests return from Origins Vol. 1: John 5 appears on "I'm Down" and "Politician," and Lita Ford on "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Cheap Trick's Robin Zander joins on "30 Days in the Hole," and former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick on "Manic Depression."

"Space Truckin'," the Deep Purple song issued as the first single on July 28, 2020, was recorded at The Creation Lab in Turlock, California, with drummer Matt Starr and keyboardist Rob Sabino, while Frehley handled guitar, bass and vocals himself. He has said the track was cut years earlier and finished by re-recording some parts. Its animated video, embedded above, was animated by Chris Fequiere.

On release the album reached No. 81 on the Billboard 200, No. 9 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart and No. 14 on Independent Albums. In Europe it peaked at No. 21 in Sweden and No. 34 in Germany.
