2LP Black Vinyl

Jive's double-LP edition of A Tribe Called Quest's debut, catalog number 01241-41331-1, carries the album's full fourteen-track program across four sides. The original 1990 vinyl was a single LP of eleven tracks. This two-record set, with a November 1996 street date, adds "Public Enemy," "Go Ahead in the Rain" and "Description of a Fool," the three songs that first pressing left off.

The jacket reproduces the original street-scene illustration by Paije Hunyady and Bryant Peters, with design by David Martin Scilken of ZombArt, and the center labels continue the same artwork. The back cover lists all four sides with timings beside the original credits: written, produced and mixed by A Tribe Called Quest, recorded at Calliope Studios and Battery Studios in New York, engineered by Shane Faber, Bob Power, Anthony Saunders and Tim Latham, with Red Alert named executive in charge of rhythmic head nods. The sleeve prints the third song on side B as "Public Enemy"; the album's standard listings title it "Pubic Enemy."

People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm was recorded at Calliope Studios between late 1989 and early 1990, with Q-Tip handling sampling and mixing and Ali Shaheed Muhammad playing the live instruments, scratches and programming. The Source gave it the first five-mic rating in the magazine's history, and it was certified Gold in the United States in January 1996, the year Jive issued this set.
