[PREORDER] Bob Dylan - Desire (Black Vinyl)

A 2026 Sony Legacy pressing of Desire on a single black LP, part of a wave of Bob Dylan catalog titles the label put out together this year.

Desire was released on January 5, 1976 on Columbia, produced by Don DeVito and recorded across sessions in July, August and October 1975. Jacques Levy co-wrote seven of the nine songs, leaving "One More Cup Of Coffee" and "Sara" to Dylan alone.

Scarlet Rivera plays violin on the record. Dylan saw her carrying her instrument through Greenwich Village in late June 1975, invited her to rehearse, and had her playing with him the same evening. Emmylou Harris sang backing vocals at the July 30 session; she was unhappy with the results and did not return, and her vocal on "Hurricane" was replaced by Ronee Blakley in the final mix.

The opening track argues the case of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, convicted of a triple murder in 1966; Dylan wrote it after reading Carter's autobiography, and closed his liner notes on the subject: "When Rubin gets out of jail, we celebrate in the historical parking lot in sunburned California." The album spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 and reached number three in the United Kingdom.
