Simply Baroque pairs Yo-Yo Ma with conductor Ton Koopman and the period-instrument Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra for a program of well-known works by Johann Sebastian Bach alongside lesser-known compositions by Luigi Boccherini. Ma performs on a Baroque cello fitted with gut strings and played without an endpin, held between the legs so the sound resonates fully through the instrument's body. The softer tone of the gut strings and the absence of an endpin produce a more resonant, less dry sound that reframes these familiar pieces as an immersive listening experience.

This Music on Vinyl reissue is a limited edition of 500 copies, pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl in aquamarine across two LPs and including a 4-page booklet with liner notes.
