Return To The Red Planet is Rick Wakeman's sequel to his 2020 album The Red Planet, a progressive rock suite composed and performed with the English Rock Ensemble: Lee Pomeroy, Dave Colquhoun, Adam Falkner and Mollie Marriott. Wakeman drew on planetary research, mission data and recent imaging of Mars before writing, tracing the planet's ancient lakes, canyon systems and dust storms across nine movements.

The vinyl edition is pressed on 140 gram crystal clear vinyl as a gatefold 2LP. The CD edition pairs the studio album on CD with a Blu-ray disc carrying a Dolby Atmos mix, 5.1 surround sound and hi-res stereo mixes, a "Making Of Return To The Red Planet" documentary, and a 20-page printed booklet.
