A Spain-import 180-gram vinyl reissue of Sketches of Spain, Miles Davis's 1960 collaboration with arranger Gil Evans and one of the most singular records of his career. Recorded between November 1959 and March 1960, it was Davis and Evans's third project together after Miles Ahead (1957) and Porgy and Bess (1958), and remains the trumpeter's deepest engagement with European concert tradition.
The album's centerpiece is the sixteen-minute reading of the adagio from Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, arranged by Evans for Davis's flugelhorn over a chamber-orchestra of brass, winds, and harp. The remaining four pieces — Manuel de Falla's "Will O' the Wisp" alongside three Evans-Davis originals, "The Pan Piper," "Saeta," and "Solea" — draw on flamenco rhythms and Andalusian modal harmony. Alongside Kind of Blue, In a Silent Way, and 'Round About Midnight, Sketches of Spain stands among Davis's most enduring studio statements. This limited edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and includes a bonus track.
