The Dark is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Metal Church, originally released in 1986 and widely regarded as an essential release among thrash metal listeners. It is dedicated to Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, who died nine days before the album's release, and its songs work through somber, forceful themes of assassination, death, and personal struggle. Produced by Mark Dodson, known for his work with Anthrax and Suicidal Tendencies, it captures the band at a creative peak and is the last studio album to feature their classic lineup. Watch the Children Pray, Ton of Bricks, and Over My Dead Body are among its best-known tracks.
