Athens, Georgia's Little Gold is a collective centered on Christian DeRoeck, a founding member of Woods and Meneguar. Public Dog, the band's fifth full-length, plays power pop with a lo-fi country heart, drawing on the lyrical knack DeRoeck built with collaborator Ryan Davis. With the easygoing eloquence of a barstool storyteller, the album tackles addiction, early '90s mixtapes, lost-and-found pets on the triumphant "Cochise," invasive wildflowers, and misspelled tattoos on "Born to Loose."

Recorded by Jesse Mangum at the Glow in Athens, the album features Tyler Key on pedal steel and Athens singer Julia Barfield on harmonies throughout. As collaborator T. Hardy Morris puts it, "Christian's knack for creating these little crystalline moments with words - things will be sort of abstract and then he brings it all into view with one line."
