The Skipper is the 1972 debut by bassist Henry 'The Skipper' Franklin, a cornerstone of the Black Jazz catalog. Franklin had played with Willie Bobo, The Three Sounds, and Hugh Masekela - he's on bass with Masekela at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival - and here leads a band including Oscar Brashear (trumpet and flugelhorn), Charles Owens (saxophones), Bill Henderson (electric piano), and Michael Carvin (drums). Remastered with liner notes, pressed on blue with black swirl vinyl in a run of 500.
