The Kiss of Morning, released in 2002, is Graham Coxon's fourth solo album and the point at which his songwriting and arranging stepped up. 'Baby, You're Out of My Mind' turns on deft fingerpicking that nods to early Bob Dylan, 'Locked Doors' moves on a loose R&B boogie, and the pared-back riffs of 'It Ain't No Lie' were cut from similar cloth to the then newly emerging White Stripes. Less of a DIY affair than its predecessors, it brings in pedal steel player B.J. Cole and Louis Vause on keyboards to flesh out the range on offer. "I felt free to do whatever I wanted to do," Coxon has said of it. "I was expanding my sound and also finding a bit more calm in my songs." NME wrote that the record "operates on a level of perversity, honesty and originality that blows most bands out of the water."
This reissue is part of Transgressive's comprehensive campaign covering Coxon's solo catalogue, following a first wave in June that included the previously unreleased studio album Castle Park, which reached number 6 on the OCC Independent Chart. The packaging is faithfully reproduced: a kraftboard outer sleeve with silver foiling, plus a 12-page booklet of photos and credits. Available here on indie exclusive turquoise vinyl and as a standard 2LP.
