Mobile Fidelity's UltraDisc One-Step edition of Bad: two 180 gram LPs cut at 45 RPM, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing, in a foil-stamped jacket inside an open-ended slipcase. Strictly limited to 6,000 numbered copies, catalog MFSL45UD1S2-062.

The One-Step process is what the edition is named for. Mobile Fidelity describes it as bypassing "generational losses inherent to the traditional three-step plating process by removing two steps: the production of father and mother plates," with stampers cut directly from the lacquers, which it says yields "a final LP with the lowest-possible noise floor."

The source is not analog tape, and Mobile Fidelity is direct about it: the chain is stated as "Mitsubishi X-80 16-bit/48kHz digital master to analog console to lathe," sourced from the original masters. Krieg Wunderlich mastered the set.

Cutting the album across four sides also makes room for "Leave Me Alone," which was left off the 1987 vinyl and reached listeners on the CD. It closes Side Four here.

Bad was released on August 31, 1987 on Epic, produced by Quincy Jones with Jackson co-producing. Five of its singles reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 - "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man In The Mirror" and "Dirty Diana" - the first album in the chart's history to do so. It is certified eleven times platinum in the United States.
