2001 was released on November 16, 1999 on Aftermath and Interscope, Dr. Dre's first solo album in seven years. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 516,000 copies in its first week and is certified six-times Platinum by the RIAA. Dre and Mel-Man produced every track except "The Message," which Lord Finesse produced. The singles were "Still D.R.E.," "Forgot About Dre," which won the 2001 Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, and "The Next Episode."

This Definitive Sound Series edition is cut from the original analog master tapes, with lacquers by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, One-Step plating by Dorin Sauerbier at RTI, and pressing at Record Technology on 180-gram Neotech VR900-D2 vinyl. It is the second Dre title in the series after The Chronic.

Limited to 4,000 numbered copies. Two records in a heavyweight tip-on double-pocket gatefold jacket with its own slipcase, and a certificate of authenticity detailing the mastering, plating and pressing chain.
