50th Anniversary Remastered Black Vinyl

Fat Possum's reissue of Tellin' It is, in the label's words, the first vinyl pressing of the album in 50 years. The original tapes came out of the Hi Records vault and went to John Nicholson at Nashville Tape Transfer for their first playback in half a century. Clay Jones remastered them, Jeff Powell cut the lacquers at Take Out Vinyl in Memphis, and Memphis Record Pressing plated and pressed the black LP, which comes with a hype sticker and an inlay.

Peebles recorded the album for Hi Records, and it was first issued in 1975. Willie Mitchell produced and engineered it and arranged the strings with James Mitchell. The credits list Teenie Hodges on guitar, Leroy Hodges on bass, Charles Hodges on organ and piano, and Howard Grimes on drums, with Wayne Jackson on trumpet, Andrew Love and Lewis Collins on tenor saxophone, Jack Hale Sr. on trombone and the Memphis Strings.

Born in Kinloch, Missouri, in 1947, Peebles became known for her 1970s Memphis soul albums on Hi and for "I Can't Stand the Rain," which she wrote with her husband Don Bryant and Bernie Miller. She was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2014. "It Was Jealousy" is the audio above.
