The self-titled album followed Mobile Of Angels (2014) after a gap of more than three years. It is the band's first record with singer Kayla Dixon, who replaced Uta Plotkin, and bassist Justin Brown, both of whom joined in 2015.

Dixon came to the band by sending a video of herself singing its own "Your Corrupt Ways (Sour The Hymn)," then moved to Portland and went straight out on tour with YOB, Enslaved and Danzig.
