After Pacific Daydream, an online push asked the band to cover \"Africa.\" Weezer answered first with a joking cover of a different Toto song, \"Rosanna,\" then released \"Africa\" in May 2018. It reached the Billboard Hot 100 and went to number one on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRivers Cuomo told Apple Music that the band then set rules for a full set. Most of the versions would stay faithful to pre-'90s songs, with nothing by alt-rock peers and none of the obvious classic-rock staples, and Phil Collins' take on \"You Can't Hurry Love\" served as the model. Cuomo has also described using Spotify's data on most-played songs to settle the tracklist. In the band's track notes for Apple Music, Cuomo says \"Billie Jean\" took seven hours to sing, and recalls that Spike Jonze had once wanted their \"Happy Together\" for Adaptation but did not like the version they sent him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMark Rankin produced the album with the band, and Eric Boulanger mastered it. It appeared digitally without announcement on January 24, 2019, a surprise precursor to the Black Album that March. It debuted at number 47 on the Billboard 200 and rose to number five the following week, with \"Take On Me\" following \"Africa\" as a single. Critics were divided, and Metacritic records a weighted score of 58 from ten reviews.
