Ryan K. Smith mastered the recording for vinyl at Sterling Sound, and the set was made with the Larson estate and members of the original company and creative team.

The records sit in a rigid, book-style quad gatefold jacket modeled on the original cast album artwork, its panels carrying archival material from Jonathan Larson's life and working process, with each disc in a printed poly-lined inner sleeve. A collectible ephemera envelope pays tribute to the Nederlander Theatre, the show's Broadway home. The archival pages draw on handwritten and typed lyrics and development notes from the Jonathan Larson Papers at the Library of Congress and Larson's holdings at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

The stitched 24-page booklet holds the full lyrics and a new oral history of nearly 20,000 words by theater historian Jennifer Ashley Tepper.
