The fourteen tracks are split seven to a side on a single LP. A standard black LP, a CD and a numbered Dinked edition on white vinyl were released alongside it under their own barcodes.

It is Tricky's fifteenth studio album and his first full-length under his own name since Fall to Pieces in 2020. In the years between he released records as Lonely Guest, as Theis Thaws with producer Mike Theis, and a joint album with Marta, all on False Idols. He has said he first thought of this one as another side project, until his manager, Alan McGee, heard the songs and judged them a Tricky record.

It was recorded between Tricky's home in France and sessions in Bristol. The Bristol singer Mitch Sanders sings on most of the album, and The List notes that every song credits Sanders and Tricky as co-writers. Radana appears on the track named after her, and the closing "Out Of Place," the first single, features longtime collaborator Marta; it was written for her own album before Tricky reclaimed it.

The label describes the sound as skeletal blues, brooding electronics, distorted guitars and stark hip-hop rhythms. Tricky says of it: "I just love making music.
