The band moved to Los Angeles in 1974 and signed with Leon Russell's Shelter Records, which released \"Depot Street\" backed with \"Wild Eyes\" as a single in 1975, then broke Mudcrutch up late that year and kept only Petty under contract. Months later he regrouped with Campbell and Tench as the Heartbreakers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlan \"Bugs\" Weidel's note for the album explains the stretch in between: on Denny Cordell's advice Petty first recorded as a solo artist with session players, which is why the musicians change from track to track.
