Nuclear Blast announced the colorway as US only and limited to 700 copies. It was one of fourteen configurations the label set out for the album, running from a jewel-case CD to a mailorder vinyl box, with nine colorways of the double LP among them.

The two gold discs sit in a gatefold sleeve with catalog number 58301 on the spine. A hype sticker on the shrinkwrap names the Inca Gold vinyl and carries the number NB6487-1 and the barcode 4065629648718. The center labels reproduce figures from the cover painting and are marked for 33 RPM. On the back cover the eleven tracks are numbered straight through under four headings, I to IV, which match the four sides.

The album is the ninth studio record from Tobias Sammet's Avantasia, issued on October 21, 2022 through Nuclear Blast as the follow-up to 2019's Moonglow. Sammet wrote all of the music and lyrics and produced it with Avantasia guitarist Sascha Paeth. He has said some of the song ideas go back to 2018. Swedish illustrator Alexander Jansson painted the cover.

Sammet sings lead and plays keyboards and additional bass, with Paeth on guitars and bass, Felix Bohnke on drums, and Michael Rodenberg on keyboards for two tracks. Eight guest singers appear across the record, among them Floor Jansen, Michael Kiske, Jorn Lande and Geoff Tate, and the tracklist below credits each by song.

"The Wicked Rule The Night" was the first single, released with a lyric video on May 19, 2022. The official video above is for the title track, the second single, which features Magnum singer Bob Catley.

Tracklist

LP 1, Side A

Welcome To The Shadows

The Wicked Rule The Night (feat.
