The gatefold opens on a live photograph by Nathan Congleton. The record sits in a printed inner sleeve with a grid of thumbnail photos by Manny Mares and the band, along with the full album credits. The back cover lists both sides above a group portrait of the four members and is marked Made in the U.S.A. The front is a painting by John Garrett Slaby.

Title Fight came out of Kingston, Pennsylvania: Jamie Rhoden on guitar and vocals, Ned Russin on bass and vocals, Shane Moran on guitar and Ben Russin on drums. They signed to SideOneDummy in January 2011, and Shed was released that May 3. Russin has said that since their 2009 compilation the band had "seen the world and had life experiences." The album's release coincided with the band opening the Redwood Art Space, an all-ages venue.

Walter Schreifels of Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand and Rival Schools produced the album, and the sleeve credits him on "Where Am I?" and "Safe in Your Skin." Will Yip mixed and engineered it at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and Kim Rosen mastered it. The twelve songs run a little over 27 minutes, so the side change comes around quickly.

Shed scored 81 on Metacritic and entered the Billboard Heatseekers chart at No. 8. "27," "Flood of '72" and the title track were released ahead of the album. Music videos followed for "27," "Shed" and "Coxton Yard," and the "Coxton Yard" video above was shot on tour. "Safe in Your Skin" was never issued as a single. After a wave of attention on TikTok in 2022 and 2023, it became the band's most-streamed song on Spotify.

Tracklist

Side A

Coxton Yard

Shed

Flood of '72

Society

You Can't Say Kingston Doesn't Love You

Crescent-Shaped Depression

Side B

Safe in Your Skin

Where Am I?

Your Screen Door

27

Stab

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)

UPC: 603967144116
Label: Side One Dummy
Release Date: 5.3.11
Format: Vinyl
