Miles Showell cut the lacquers at Abbey Road Studios, and both names are etched into the runout on each side. The jacket reproduces the original artwork, and the record comes in a printed inner sleeve with the lyrics. It keeps the original ten-song vinyl running order; "Murder by Numbers," a bonus track on the 1983 cassette and CD, is not on it.

This was the band's fifth and final studio album, released by A&M in June 1983. Sessions began in December 1982 at AIR Studios on Montserrat with Hugh Padgham co-producing. Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland tracked in separate rooms, with Copeland's drums set up in the dining room and linked to the control room by video. Overdubs and mixing followed at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec. The title and much of the material were inspired by Arthur Koestler's The Roots of Coincidence.

The album went to No. 1 in the UK and on the Billboard 200, where it spent 17 weeks at the top, and held No. 1 in Canada for 24 consecutive weeks. At the 1984 Grammy Awards it won Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and was nominated for Album of the Year, while "Every Breath You Take," the video above, won Song of the Year. It entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Library of Congress National Recording Registry in 2023. Jeff Ayeroff and Norman Moore designed the cover around Duane Michals' photographs, striped in yellow, blue and red, and the original release came in 36 variations of it.

Tracklist

Side A

Synchronicity I

Walking in Your Footsteps

O My God

Mother

Miss Gradenko

Synchronicity II

Side B

Every Breath You Take

King of Pain

Wrapped Around Your Finger

Tea in the Sahara

Complete the Collection

Six Police titles at Evergreen Vinyl, this one included: Reggatta De Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost In The Machine, Every Breath You Take: The Singles, The Police.

UPC: 602508046117
Label: A&m
Release Date: 11.8.19
Format: Vinyl
