Don Was produced the sessions in New York City in January and February 2001, at Montana Rehearsal Studios and Theater 99 Recording. With no bassist in the lineup at the time, Rich Robinson covered most of the bass parts himself; on \"Lay It All On Me\" he moved to piano and Was took the bass. Guitarist Audley Freed, heard on three tracks, appears on no other Black Crowes studio album. The band tracked to tape and Pro Tools at once and kept the tape version for its sound.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe album debuted at its peak of No. 20 on the Billboard 200, selling more than 53,000 copies in its first week.
